A man was killed in a single-vehicle wreck in northwest Atlanta on Saturday afternoon, police said.

When police responded to the crash around 4 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Ollie Street, they found a red 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle wrapped around a telephone pole, Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said. The driver was dead at the scene.

The man was identified as Bisrat G. Haftom, 27, of Atlanta, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said Sunday.

According to the preliminary investigation, Haftom was speeding. His eastbound vehicle had just come out of a curve when he attempted to change lanes, crossed over the double yellow lines and hit the telephone pole, police said.
