A 56-year-old man died Thursday after a wreck in which he made a U-turn, Cobb County police said.

Robert Litton, of Austell, was driving a black 2002 Ford Expedition on Maxham Road at Veterans Memorial Highway just before noon when the crash occurred, authorities said in the news release.

Litton's vehicle was traveling northbound, pulling a pole trailer loaded with a wave runner, just inside the Austell city limits, police said. A garbage truck driver behind Litton changed lanes to the left to attempt to pass him, but for unknown reasons, Litton initiated a U-turn from the right lane to go southbound, according to investigators. The garbage truck collided with the Ford as the turn was being made.

Litton was transported by ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center, where he died.

The garbage truck driver, Dwelle Jenkins, 40, of Douglasville, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges are expected to be filed, Cobb police said. Cobb authorities are assisting the Austell Police Department with the investigation.
