Man found shot to death outside Athens apartment

Police in Athens are investigating the shooting of a man found dead early Wednesday at an apartment complex west of town.

Athens-Clarke County Police spokeswoman Hilda Sorrow said officers responding to a 3 a.m. report of gunshots on Pinehurst Court off Tallassee Road found Travis Sankwon Callaway at the edge of an apartment building breezeway.

Callaway, 23, died of a gunshot wound, Sorrow said.

She said that a possible suspect was taken into custody, but was released after being questioned.

The apartment where the shooting occurred is about six miles west of the University of Georgia campus.
