It's easy for Powerball to steal the spotlight, in Georgia and elsewhere. But there are other ways to win some big bucks, as three lucky local lottery players can attest.
A Mableton woman became $5 million richer in an instant last week thanks to her winning Georgia Lottery 20th Anniversary Extravaganza instant ticket.
Dieu Chau collected her prize at lottery headquarters in Atlanta on Aug. 2. The winning ticket was purchased at Sharp Shell gas station at 802 Thornton Road in Lithia Springs, the Georgia Lottery said Thursday.
Two Griffin men claimed sizable prizes Thursday thanks to their instant game tickets.
Christopher Comeau, 37, won $1 million playing $1,000,000 Benjamins, while Darriel Driver, 51, won a $750,000 playing the new game Giant Jumbo Bucks – Anniversary Edition.
Both picked up their oversized checks Thursday.
Comeau, a sales consultant, celebrated at Stop N Run at 401 Airport Road, where he bought the ticket.
“I’m going to pay some bills down, and I’ll probably buy a new car and we’ll vacation,” said Comeau, a father of three with his wife, Susan.
Driver, a textile mill worker, bought his winning ticket at Spalding Beverage at 802 Everee Inn Road.
“I was very excited,” said Driver, who has two children and two stepchildren with his wife, Barbara.
Like Comeau, he plans to spoil his family.
“I’m going to buy a new house and new cars for myself and my wife,” he said.
