Lucky you: black cats are free to adopt all month at the Georgia SPCA.

The pet rescue, based in Suwanee, has eliminated the fee for adult black cats for the month of September. Black kittens can be adopted for $50, or two for $75.

“Black kitties are beautiful, right? Yet they continue to be the least adopted,” the SPCA wrote on Facebook. “It boggles our mind.”

Black cats are adopted at lower rates than cats of other colors because of the superstitions that follow them. Some people believe that a black cat is a sign of bad luck. They have also been historically associated with witchcraft.

As of 11 a.m. on Sept. 9, there were 18 black cats and kittens available to adopt from the SPCA. Check out their full list of available cats here.
