Powder Springs Ward 2 Councilwoman Doris Dawkins took her oath of office Monday from Cobb Senior Judge James Bodiford during the city council meeting.
The vacancy was left when Al Thurman resigned to run for mayor on the Nov. 3 general election ballot.
Alison Feliciano and Councilman Chris Wizner also have qualified to run for mayor.
A federal government employee, Dawkins has served on the city’s planning and zoning commission.
The term for the Ward 2 post expires Dec. 31, 2017.
