A nighttime “lock-in” event aims to promote healthy relationships and empowerment among male students in DeKalb County’s middle and high schools.
In partnership with the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority, DeKalb Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is organizing the “Lock-in for Life” on Friday, Dec. 6 from 6 p.m. to midnight.
The event aims to address the unique challenges faced by male students in the DeKalb County education system, Cochran-Johnson’s office said in a statement. It will focus on mentorship, social preparedness, life skills and conflict resolution.

A panel of professionals including civic leaders, attorneys, elected officials and former law enforcement officials will speak to the students. The lock-in will also feature a basketball game and discussion on social and emotional health.
The six-hour program will be held at Berean Christian Church at 2201 Young Road in Stone Mountain. Parents can register their children by visiting LockInForLife.com.
“The Lock-in for Life has a core focus of youth empowerment, a process in which children and young people are encouraged to take charge of their lives,” Cochran-Johnson said in a statement. “Youth can do this by addressing their situation, taking action to improve their access to resources, and transforming their consciousness through their beliefs, values, and attitudes.”
