Three Atlanta-area youth have each been awarded $1,000 by the Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program for making positive impacts in their communities through volunteerism.

Kelsey Hirsch of Cumming, Olivia Ries of Fayetteville, and Ivana Warren of Stone Mountain each qualify for the chance to receive a $10,000 scholarship.

Hirsch, 14, created Bands4RAINN, a nonprofit organization that raises money through the sale of arm bands for victims of sexual abuse. Through various fundraisers, she raised more than $19,000 for the cause.

Ries, 11, launched a letter writing campaign to raise awareness about rhino poaching in South Africa and received more than 10,000 letters that she personally delivered to South African President Zuma and the South African Environmental Ministry.

And Warren, 12, started Shoes for Change to collect gently used shoes for needy children in Africa. To date, she has sent more than 600 pairs of shoes to Africa for children in need.

Since the program began in 2001, Kohl’s has awarded $4.3 in scholarships and prizes to more than 22,000 kids.
