Lilburn woman wins $1.5 million following lottery hunch

A 63-year-old Lilburn woman won $1.5 million playing a new lottery game, the Georgia Lottery announced Wednesday.

Emma Stinnett of Stone Mountain won playing the new instant game Fast Bucks after buying the ticket at the Neighborhood Mart on 612 Rockbridge Road in Lilburn, the lottery said.

She had stopped to purchase a bottle of water.

“The owner said that he had two tickets left, asking, ‘Do you want to try? I have a good feeling about these,’ ” Stinnett told lottery officials.

After realizing she had won the top prize, she asked the owner, “Is this real, is this right?

“I almost fell out. I couldn’t breathe,” she said.

A mother of three and a grandmother of seven, Stinnett said she plans to help her family financially.

While Stinnett's win appears serendipitous, a Mableton man took a much more systematic approach to claiming a million-dollar prize last week.

Henry “Calvin” Nash won $1 million from the Mega Millions drawing June 2 after using the locker combination from his freshman and sophomore years at Pebblebrook High School to match the first five numbers on the ticket. He was awarded the prize from the Georgia Lottery on June 3 in Atlanta.
