The Lilburn City Council approved changes to the noise ordinance Monday to restrict levels of bass noise in residential areas. Previously, the lowest sound frequencies were not measured.

The new ordinance defines the levels of dBC, high and low sound extreme decibels, in addition to dBA, considered normal noise decibel measurements. Also, noise levels will be measured from the property line of the “offender” after 10 p.m. and will continue to be measured from the complainant’s property line at all other times.

The new noise ordinance restricts noise measurements taken from the complainant’s property line to not exceed 60 dBA and 50 dBC between 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Noise measurements taken from the offender’s property line cannot exceed 50 dBA and 40 dBC between10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
