Townhome developments in Lilburn are currently allowed in medium density residential and mixed-use zoning areas. In a move to slow down and ensure responsible growth, the Lilburn City Council recently approved a moratorium barring the acceptance of applications for townhome developments in the city.

According to city documents, the mixed-use district was established to encourage mixed use development in Lilburn’s city center at a higher density of up to 22 units per acre. The city now feels they need extra time to develop additional standards for mixed-use development “to regulate the explosion of townhomes in the city.”

Unless terminated early, the moratorium will end on April 12.
