Kennesaw police on Wednesday announced they have not received any "legitimate" reports of attempted child abductions, amid recent fears of such crimes in northwest metro Atlanta.
"The Kennesaw Police Department has not received any legitimate reports of any attempted child abductions. We received only one call of a suspicious vehicle near a bus stop in which no attempt to contact a child was reported," the department said in a Facebook post. "The parent felt the vehicle was out of place and it was not located by police.
"We are not actively working any case involving any attempted abduction."
There have been warnings of attempted abductions in Marietta, Smyrna and at least one other Cobb County neighborhood, Channel 2 Action News reported this week, with the latest on Tuesday in Woodstock.
Police have also received calls from Kennesaw's Legacy Park area, according to Channel 2.
In its Facebook post Wednesday, Kennesaw police outlined best safety practices for parents and children at the bus stop, including: telling your child to avoid shortcuts to the bus stop and staying away from suspicious vehicles.
The parent of one child who reported a strange encounter in Cherokee County Tuesday described her reaction this way to Channel 2: "I definitely want to hold both my kids a little tighter every night, and I'm sad. It is sad there are no places where you feel safe."
