It’s never legal to outrun a police officer — unless you’re in a 5K race with them.

At the "Beat the Badge 5K" next weekend, DeKalb County officers will run alongside residents in the 3.1-mile road race.

All ages and experience levels are welcome at the Sept. 28 fun run, which begins and ends at DeKalb police headquarters, located at 1960 West Exchange Place in Tucker. The fifth annual race features a new course this year through the neighborhoods of Tucker, and has electronic “chip” timing.

Registration costs $30 and benefits the DeKalb Police Alliance, a nonprofit that supports law enforcement officers throughout DeKalb County. You can register online or in person on race day. Running in the race also comes with a commemorative T-shirt.

The race is scheduled to kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday. After the race, participants can enjoy a mini-festival at the police headquarters, complete with food, music and kids’ activities.

Anyone who wants more information about the race can contact Sgt. Obester at jaobester@dekalbcountyga.gov or 678-937-5301.
