The Lawrenceville City Council approved two changes to the city’s alcohol beverage code recently. The first will allow businesses seeking an alcohol beverage license to pay a one-half prorated fee for applications filed after Sept. 1. All alcohol beverage licenses must be renewed by March 1.

The second amendment pertains to businesses serving alcohol in patio/open areas in the Courthouse Square area. The businesses will not be required to provide public access only through the main licensed premises. These establishments may allow direct access to the patio/open area from the street as long as there is one specified entrance. The remainder of the patio/open area must be enclosed and clearly separated from the public sidewalk or right of way. The licensed establishment is also required to monitor customers in the patio/open area to prevent customers from leaving with an open drink.
