The Lawrenceville City Council voted Monday to prohibit overnight parking on public streets between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The new ordinance will not affect streets with designated public parking such as Culvert Street and Neal Boulevard.

Lawrenceville Police will begin first to educate the public before enforcing the new ordinance. Police Chief Randy Johnson went on to say the new ordinance will be enforced on a complaint-driven basis, or when public safety is deemed at risk. City Council members encouraged police to return with amendments to the ordinance and requests for additional designated parking if and when unusual or unfair circumstances present themselves.
