This week’s unseasonably warm temperatures will be accompanied by a couple of rounds of spring-like thunderstorms, and there’s a chance that late-week storms could become severe.

Showers and possibly a few thunderstorms are in the forecast for Tuesday night, but the National Weather Service said no severe storms are expected.

That might not be the case later in the week, when thunderstorms will again fire up ahead of a cold front pushing into northwest Georgia.

“A few storms could be strong to severe Thursday night and early Friday morning,” the Weather Service said. “All interests across north and central Georgia are encouraged to closely monitor all forecasts concerning this developing weather system later in the work week.”

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton put the chance of rain at 40 percent Tuesday night and 20 percent Wednesday, increasing to 60 percent Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Afternoon highs will be around 67 degrees Tuesday and in the low 70s Wednesday and Thursday before cooling to around 60 on Friday.

Overnight lows this week will be mostly in the mid-50s, Minton said.

Atlanta’s normal high for mid-February is 57, the normal low 38.
