With police and family pledges combined, a reward of more than $30,000 is promised in the investigation into the death of East Atlanta Village resident Alex Newton.

Newton was reportedly killed after walking in on a burglary in his apartment at the Alexan EAV complex on Monday afternoon in a crime that has rocked the community

On Thursday night, the police department announced the reward had increased to $5,000. The victim's brother, Trey Newton, has also started an online fundraiser to collect money to give to Crime Stoppers for the reward.

By Friday morning, $27,650 had been raised.

Police have released security camera footage of a suspect who hasn't yet been named.
