Drivers in Barrow, Gwinnett, and Jackson counties will experience traffic delays this week as overnight work continues for the I-85 widening project.

Lane shifts will occur 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. along between Hamilton Mill Road (Exit 120) to State Route 53 (Exit 129) in both directions as milling and asphalt paving activity occurs nightly. Drivers are advised to obey posted speed limits and traffic control measures in the area.

The project includes widening heavily congested I-85 from two to three lanes in both directions from I-985 to S.R. 53. Additional work on the project includes replacing three overpass bridges along I-85. The I-85 widening project is the first of 11 initial Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP) projects to begin construction.
