The Georgia Department of Transportation will be closing a single lane on State Route 53 West at the bridge over Lake Lanier in Hall County between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to allow work on bridge painting.

This painting operation is part of a bridge rehabilitation project. This project includes the installation of cover plates, spall repair, installation of new bridge joints, application of a new wearing surface, repair/replacement of bearing assemblies, and painting existing superstructure. Work on the project began mid-October. The entire project should be complete by the end of June, at a construction cost of $2.94 million.

Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this or any other construction project on interstates and state routes. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays due to inclement weather.
