Lakeside City Alliance announced Tuesday that it has raised enough money for a study to determine whether the city makes sense for north-central DeKalb County.

Alliance chairwoman Mary Kay Woodworth said the group reached its $30,000 goal this weekend and will soon hire the Carl Vinson Institute to create a financial and service study for the area.

At least three other cities, some with overlapping borders, are under review in DeKalb. At least one representative from another cityhood group, for Stonecrest in south DeKalb attended Tuesday’s announcement in Decatur.

Woodworth said Tuesday that last week’s indictments of DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis had no effect on the alliance’s work or fund-raising but that the charges do “put some concern in some people’s minds.”
