Lake Lanier property owner drowns

When family members couldn’t contact their loved one at his lakeside property, they called the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, officials said Friday.

Deputies found personal items on the Lake Lanier dock when they arrived on a Wednesday in August. Before jumping into the water to search, divers found the body of 53-year-old Gregory Todd Walker of Cumming.

The husband and father of two sons owned lakeside property in the 8000 block of Beachwood Drive in Murrayville, deputies said.

Walker’s body was about 40 yards offshore. The DeKalb County Medical Examiner confirmed Walker drowned and does not suspect foul play.

According to an obituary published by Byrd and Flanigan Funeral Home, Walker worked as a residential builder in Forsyth County.

“He was a devoted family man who never missed his sons’ ballgames or a family gathering at the lake,” the obituary said.
