Bob Kovacs was the top vote-getter over Jack Staver in the Republican primary runoff for the District 3 Cherokee County Board of Commissioners’s seat.

With all precincts reporting, unofficial election results showed Kovacs leading Staver by about 52 percent to 48 percent of 1,706 votes cast Tuesday.

Kovacs moved with his wife and family to Cherokee County eight years ago and has served on various boards and committees in the community. He ran on a promise "to do my best to maintain Cherokee County's excellent quality of life, while keeping costs in check," according to his "Elect Bob Kovacs" website.
