The Alpharetta City Council has authorized spending an additional $224,837 on the Kimball Bridge Road Corridor Improvement Project.

A $15.69 million project contract had been awarded to CMES Inc. in January 2019, but “due to project delays, an official notice to proceed was not issued until late January (2020) for a Feb. 3 start date,” staff said in a report to the council. “This 14-month delay resulted in subcontractor’s and supplier’s prices to expire that CMES Inc. provided in their original bid.”

Total project cost is now $15.91 million. “Funding is available within the Public Works Non-Allocated account within the Series 2016 Bond Fund to cover this change order,” staff said.

Plans call for a second east/southbound lane for Kimball Bridge from North Point Parkway to Waters Road; a second west/northbound lane from Big Creek to North Point; a dual-lane roundabout at Rock Mill Road; sidewalks 8 to 10 feet wide; connections to the Big Creek Greenway; and closures of two sidewalk gaps along the west/north side of Spruell Circle.
