3 killed in Cobb wreck

Oct 20, 2013

Three people were killed in a wreck after a driver slammed into a tree in Cobb County early Sunday morning.

The incident happened on Clay Road in Austell around 12:30 a.m.

Authorities said 20-year-old Michael A. Haynes of Austell was speeding in a silver 2008 Nissan Altima westbound on Clay Road just west of Flint Hill Road when he lost control on the vehicle entering a right curve. The vehicle hit a tree, killing Haynes and passengers Jacolby D. Lowe, 24, and Jerod A. Lowe, 21, both of Marietta, Cobb police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman said. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no evidence that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash, but the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an investigation that will include drug and alcohol testing, Bowman said.

Anyone with information on the wreck should call investigators at 770-499-3987.
