An 82-year-old passenger was killed Sunday afternoon after Cobb County police said her SUV turned into oncoming traffic.

Francis E. Walls was riding in the front passenger seat of a gray Nissan Rogue around 3 p.m. when the driver of the SUV tried to turn left from C.H. James Parkway onto Humphries Hill Road near Austell. The Nissan collided with the front of a black Ford F-150 going the opposite direction, according to police.

The Atlanta resident was dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, identified by police as 62-year-old Shelley K. Wimpey of Douglasville, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Police do not consider her injuries to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene.

The crash is still under investigation, Cobb County police spokesman Officer Neil Penirelli said Sunday night. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department’s traffic unit at 770-499-3987.
