The city of Jonesboro received an $80,000 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Center Initiative for Community Planning Studies and Transportation Projects.
The LCI is a program that awards grants to cities to enhance existing city centers and provide transportation funding. Jonesboro, which first added MARTA bus service last summer, submitted its city plan to the ARC in 2003 and plans to use the grant to expand its MARTA bus service.
The city will also begin planning for a rail station, which will be the first in Clayton County. The city also plans more focus on Jonesboro’s Historic Downtown area.
