Jonesboro will break ground Tuesday afternoon on a downtown redevelopment project that leaders hope will make the Clayton County city a visitor and residential destination.

Officials will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Firehouse Museum, 103 West Mill Street, in downtown Jonesboro for the groundbreaking of the Broad Street Plaza Project.

The project will bring to the city's downtown new greenspace, including gardens, walking paths, a pavilion and central grassy place similar to the one at Atlantic Station.

It also will open up views of buildings along the city’s historic Main Street, which could be reconfigured to have second entrances on the back to accommodate greenspace visitors.
