The Johns Creek City Council has authorized spending a total of $190,000 to plan a widening of Jones Bridge Road.

Staff recommended that the council spend $150,000 “engineering the roadway footprint at four travel lanes” between Waters and State Bridge roads, but to initially plan to stripe the roadway for two travel lanes with a center turn lane.

An engineering firm should do a traffic study to determine when a re-striping plan, creating the four-lane version of the road, should immediately be brought back to the council for a decision, staff said.

The council approved the $150,000 expenditure and an additional $10,000 for a traffic study of Jones Bridge at Old Alabama Road, and $30,000 for a traffic study where Jones Bridge turns into Barnwell Road.

Last fall, the council approved a plan for a three-lane Jones Bridge with a center turn lane, but Mayor Mike Bodker vetoed it. Bodker said residents had been promised a four-lane road when they voted to approve a TSPLOST to pay for it.
