The city of Johns Creek has approved an intergovernmental agreement with Fulton County on a planned public safety radio communications tower that both will use.

Under the deal, the city will pay Fulton County $850,000 for development of the site and antenna construction, with the city owning the facility. The tower will go up at 6425 Old Alabama Road in southern Forsyth County, and is designed to eliminate coverage gaps and signal penetration problems in the Shakerag area of Johns Creek.

The city will allow the county to put its own radio equipment on the tower. Fulton County plans to have a new “trunked” public safety radio system completed by year’s end.

The council agreed on a deal with Forsyth County earlier this year allowing the city to utilize the land.
