Johns Creek is moving to cancel its environmental services contract with Keep North Fulton Beautiful, which has worked with the city since 2009 on such events as household hazardous waste collections, bulky recycling and the Johns Creek Cleanup and Creek Crawl.

The City Council approved the termination of the contract effective Nov. 18. Keep North Fulton Beautiful’s last scheduled event of the year for Johns Creek is a hazardous waste collection Nov. 3.

The city had retained the Sandy Springs-based group to meet federal and state requirements for environmental programming and educational and community events; but council members in August decided to terminate its contract and asked staff to research alternatives, according to Solid Waste Manager James Swope.

Staff reviewed the service provisions and what other cities are doing and recommended preparing requests for proposals for outside contractors for various events; and reaching out to community groups to form partnerships for environmental activities, Swope said in a report to the council.
