The Johns Creek City Council has awarded a $6.9 million contract to C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. to improve Ga. 120/Abbotts Bridge Road from Jones Bridge to Parsons Bridge roads.
The mile-long project would add turn lanes, landscaped medians, curbs and gutters, sidewalks and trails, a city spokesman said.
Construction is to begin in September and be completed in a year. It is the first of four projects being coordinated with the Georgia Department of Transportation to improve Ga. 120 from Old Milton Parkway to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
The next project will be improvements to the Ga. 120/Kimball Bridge Road section to the west, according to a Johns Creek staff report. It is in the right-of-way acquisition phase and is expected to be ready to advertise for bids next spring, with construction beginning in the fall of 2017.
