The Peachtree Corners City Council approved a change order Tuesday for intersection improvement costs at Holcomb Bridge Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard. This is a joint SPLOST project with Gwinnett DOT.

Bids for the work provided almost a year ago by Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon Inc. underestimated the quantities of various elements of work to complete the project. Due to the magnitude of the variation, the contractor, E.R. Snell Contractor Inc. brought the issue to the city’s attention, and BWSC reworked the estimate. The revised cost totals $88,504. On Tuesday, the city agreed to remove $40,000 worth of landscaping and outdoor furnishings and approve a change order for the remaining $48,504 to cover increases in traffic control, leveling course, tack coat and milling.

City officials noted it is not unusual for constructed quantities to vary from the estimated quantities presented in the bid form. The intersection improvements are expected to be complete on or before Jan. 20.
