Construction on the mixed-use Trinity Triangle project, just south of downtown Decatur, has been fully underway since September. But connecting with DeKalb County’s sewer line, an impediment delaying the development for months, was solved with an intergovernmental agreement between city and county, approved recently by the DeKalb commission. City and county will split costs (still undetermined) for connecting with and upgrading the line. Developer Centro Development, however, will reimburse half the money to Decatur’s Downtown Development Authority, so ultimately the city bears no expense. The work will initiate from above ground through what Centro principal owner Kent Collins calls the “pipe-bursting method.” This means Maple Street won’t be opened up, as it was for months in 2013 when the city did storm water upgrades. Collins said work should begin sometime this summer.
