A prison inmate walked away from work detail in Buford on Monday afternoon, Gwinnett County police said.

The inmate was with a work crew from the Georgia Department of Corrections. The corrections department has not provided the name or sentence details of the inmate as of 5 p.m. Monday.

The male inmate walked away from the work site at South Hill Street and New Street around 1:25 p.m. Multiple units participated in a search that lasted for about an hour and a half. The inmate was arrested shortly before 3 p.m., according to the police department.
