House approves South Fulton city bill

Feb 20, 2014

Plans to incorporate the City of South Fulton took a significant step forward Thursday as the Georgia House of Representatives approved a measure that could pave the way for cityhood.

Representatives approved House Bill 704 by a vote of 163 to 2. The bill would allow South Fulton residents to vote in May on whether to form the new city. It still must pass the state Senate and win the signature of Gov. Nathan Deal.

If that happens and voters approved the city, South Fulton would stretch from Atlanta to Chattahoochee Hills and from College Park to the Douglas county line. It would encompass the last remaining unincorporated area of Fulton County, which already has 14 cities.
