The phrase “It takes a village” may ring true for Monica Lunn.

Lunn’s school, Knox Elementary School in Cherokee County, hopes to raise $100,000 to make her house wheel chair accessible.

Lunn was still in the hospital after a car accident left her paralyzed, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The six-year-old was less than a block away from school when her mom’s car was struck by another car as she made a left turn into the school.

Principal Tammy Sandell told the news station Lunn needed a wheelchair accessible car, ramps to get inside her home and a chair lift since her bedroom is on the second floor. She will also need a roll in shower.

Sandell said she’s horrified that Lunn is confined to a wheelchair and respirator her entire life, but is glad she’s alive.

“On the other hand, [I’m] so excited [be]cause I didn’t even know if she was going to make it,” Sandell said.

Home Depot has agreed to donate the materials to build the ramp, Channel 2 reported. The school is accepting donations.
