The city of Holly Springs is cracking down on repeat alarm violators. The city council recently OK’d an ordinance setting up fines for repeat false alarms. A fourth automatic alarm drawing a police response within a year is a $50 fine. That escalates to $75 with a fifth occasion and for a sixth and beyond, the fine jumps to $100.

There’s also a $100 fine for failure to register a system.

Holly Springs police have had problems with repeated false alarm responses. When an officer responds repeatedly to a false alarm, he can let down his guard resulting in injury or death. The city wants to save tax dollars lost through responses going to habitual false alarms.

The ordinance takes effect immediately.
