Holly Springs Police Chief Ken Ball plans to retire by year’s end and has accepted a position as chief deputy of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office starting in January, the city announced.
“We know that Chief Ball will be very successful in his new career and we wish him much success in the future,” City Manager Rob Logan said.
“The mayor, City Council and I intend to name Deputy Chief Michael Carswell as acting police chief during the transition period and intend to name him full-time chief upon Chief Ball’s retirement at the end of the year,” Logan said.
Ball has more than 34 years of law enforcement experience and has held numerous command positions, according to the Holly Springs website.
He will go to work for Sheriff-elect Frank Reynolds, winner of the May 24 election for Cherokee sheriff. Reynolds takes office in January, succeeding longtime Sheriff Roger Garrison.
