The Holly Springs City Council on Monday night approved the city’s most significant new housing development since before the Great Recession.

The council signed off on plans for Ryland Homes to build roughly 200 detached single-family homes on 87.38 acres off Hickory Road just east of Stringer Road, said city manager Rob Logan. Logan said no timetable’s been given for when work starts, as Ryland has to finish acquiring the needed property.

In other business, the council appointed member Mike Zenchuk as mayor pro tem for the coming year and made appointments to council committees, as well as to the Board of Appeals and Main Street program board.
