The Holly Springs City Council has taken another step toward downtown development, approving a marketing study for up to $46,500 to be done by the Bleakly Advisory Group.

The study will look at potential end users for the downtown tax allocation district centering around Holly Springs Parkway and Hickory Road, what the market will bear and how to attract those kinds of businesses, said City Manager Rob Logan.

“We know things like restaurants would be successful, but what we’re really looking at is retail operations, ” said Logan. He added that office space, residential housing and senior living will also be examined and that the study’s expected to be done by summer.

The council also approved a zoning ordinance amendment targeted to owners of small businesses in strip shopping centers essentially doubling the allowable size of wall signs while establishing a cap.
