Hold for a minute? Sorry, Southerners can’t wait, survey finds
Yankees are just so impatient. Rush, rush, rush. Never the time to wait.
Southerners are different, right?
Not so, says a London phone marketing company that surveyed thousands of consumers to see which region’s residents were willing to wait longer when put on hold during a call made to a business.
Southerners, the survey from PH Media Group found, are the least patient folks in the country.
Just over half (53 percent) of respondents in the South were willing to wait for more than a minute when put on hold.
By contrast, Northeasterners were somewhat more patient, with 57 percent willing to hold on that long when calling a business.
So much for the New York Minute.
“It appears people in the South are particularly quick to hang up the phone when placed on hold,” said Mark Williamson, PH Media Group sales and marketing director.
A total of 2,234 consumers were surveyed.
A couple of other interesting data points from the survey:
* 60 percent of women were willing to remain on the line for longer than a minute, versus 49 per cent of men.
* 59 percent of 45 to 64-year-olds were prepared to wait more than a minute, compared with 50 percent of 18 to 34-year-olds.
