A "high rise" "urban-style" apartment development located between the Mall of Georgia and a mixed-use development project backed by Atlanta Falcons receiver Julio Jones has been approved by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners.

The two-tower project at Woodward Crossing Boulevard and Mall of Georgia Boulevard is owned by HKPK Properties and Buford jeweler Isa Guven, according to documents filed with the county. It will go on land near the mall that is currently undeveloped.

Between two buildings, there would be 260 apartments, mostly one-bedrooms with some two-bedroom units, said Shane Lanham, a lawyer representing the project. The project will also have a gym, leasing center and parking garage.

The buildings will be close to the road in order to promote walkability, Lanham said. That is intended to increase resident access to the mall and Ariston, the 16-acre project backed by Jones.

“We view it in a lot of ways as an extension of that mixed use development,” Lanham said.

Ariston broke ground this summer. The project will include almost 300 apartments, a 110-room Hilton Garden Inn, restaurants and retail space.
