A possible makeover of the park at the historic center of Sandy Springs – and how that might affect the natural spring that gave the city its name – are topics of a public meeting Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Heritage Sandy Springs.

Mayor Rusty Paul asked Heritage Sandy Springs, which manages and operates Heritage Green and the landmark Williams-Payne House, to call the meeting to share an architect’s proposal for the 4-acre park, said Carol Thompson, executive director of the organization. The meeting is to run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the group’s headquarters, 6110 Blue Stone Road, which also is the address of the park.

Heritage Sandy Springs has raised $100,000 as “seed money” for the project, Thompson said. The meeting, she said, “is about the improvements we’re trying to make to the park as well as the meadow next to the spring.”

She declined to go into details of the plan or if they involve the spring – currently below ground level and covered by a metal grate – other than to say it will remain as an important symbol of the community.
