The lights have been strung and the trees have been placed, now all that's left before Palm Beach is ready for the holidays is the flipping of the switch.
Three traditional tree lightings start off the week.
The first lighting will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Bradley Park. But because of safety concerns associated with continuing park renovations and clean-up from Hurricane Irma, Mayor Gail Coniglio said there will not be a public ceremony. Bradley Park did not have a ceremony the previous two years due, in part, to the Flagler Memorial Bridge construction.
On Tuesday, the town’s public ceremonies get under way. The Greater South County Road Association event is at 5 p.m. at Memorial Park, with a performance by the Kings Academy and an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus. After that, Worth Avenue will host its annual holiday parade.
Santa, the elves and various entertainers will lead the parade presented by the Worth Avenue Association and Coniglio. The Cardinal Newman Marching Band will lead the way for Santa, who will ride down the Avenue in a yacht, the association says.
The parade will end with the lighting of the 40-foot tree at 6:29 p.m.
The holiday events continue later in the week.
On the heels of its ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Royal Poinciana Plaza is planning a “holiday reveal” on Friday. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m., with a tree lighting at 6:30 p.m.
The Flagler Museum will hold its annual Christmas event from 3-5 p.m. Dec. 3, with music and caroling followed by the tree lighting. The event is free with admission.
