The Henry Players will sponsor a monologue competition for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors residing in Henry County.

Entrants, competing for a grand prize of $1,000, will perform a one-to-three minute selection from a Southern play.

“The competition will allow students to work on diction, and build their confidence and self-esteem through the spoken word, while celebrating and keeping alive the tradition of Southern playwriting,” said Steve Green of the Henry Players.

A preliminary round will be held Sunday and the finals Jan. 31 at the Board of Education Building at 33 N. Zack Hinton Parkway in McDonough. Both events start at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
