Police are looking for a man who shelved himself at a McDonough grocery store before shooting one employee and robbing the store.

Henry County police said the bandit went into the Aldi store at 450 Jonesboro Road Thursday night, and hid out until closing, spokesman Sgt. Joey Smith said.

“The suspect hid in one of the dairy coolers until the store closed, then he cornered the three remaining employees,” Smith said.

The bandit then herded the employees into a store office and demanded that they open the safe.

“Evidently, one of them was not moving fast enough,” Smith said. “He shot one of them in the foot, and that motivated one of the others to open the safe.”

After the robbery, the man fled with an unspecified amount of cash.

No getaway vehicle was described.

The injured employee was taken to Piedmont Henry Hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

Police described the gunman as a black male between the ages of 40 and 50, standing about 5-feet-8-inches tall, weighing around 150 pounds and wearing a gray hoodie with “AND1” on the front and gray sweatpants.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call the Henry County Police at Detective M. Sens at 770-288-8265.
