Henry County officials have announced a location change for a planned new park in the northern end of the county.

The new 35-acre site off Fairview and Anvil Block roads includes 23 acres being purchased from the Board of Education at a savings of $20,000 per acre from the price of the previous site, according to Commissioner Bruce Holmes.

Plans include two full-size fields to be used for various sports in different seasons, as well as volleyball courts, walking trails, pavilions, a playground and a splash pad with fountain, along with additional soccer and lacrosse fields and extra running and walking trails throughout the park.

Holmes expects the county to close on the property by mid-January.
