Henry County officials received word recently that they have been awarded $3.5 million to build a new park-and-ride lot on Jonesboro Road near Interstate 75. It is one of 11 transit projects across metro Atlanta to receive funding as announced June 22 by Gov. Nathan Deal.
The county applied in January to the State Road and Tollway Authority through the Go! Transit Capital Program for funds for the lot. Officials said that Henry County has one of the highest number of riders on the GRTA Xpress Bus Service line in the metro Atlanta area and existing lots are often full to capacity.
