Marley Parker, age 10, and her mother Melissa Rommelman were recognized June 18 by officials from the Henry County Fire Department for their life-saving skills after they rescued a 4-year-old neighbor from drowning.

Marley and her friends were playing in a swimming pool June 12 when she noticed that the child was missing. After discovering that she was at the bottom of the pool at the deep end, the youngster swam over quickly and brought her to the surface, where her mother began CPR. The child was breathing and conscious when first responders arrived.

Fire chief Luther Phillips and other officials presented a proclamation to the pair and Marley was made an honorary firefighter.
