Henry County residents got a little more clarity Tuesday on who could be the south metro community’s next sheriff as the election whittled down the field of 10 contestants for the office.

Jack Redlinger won the race outright to be the Republican nominee in the race this November while Democrats Reginald Scandrett and Tony Brown will meet in a runoff in August as neither of the two top vote getters on the Democratic side reached more than 50% of the vote.

The battle to replace retiring Henry Sheriff Keith McBrayer was one of several contested races in Tuesday's elections in Henry County.

Incumbent Henry County Board of Education members Pam Nutt and Holly Carter Cobb beat back their opponents while board chairman Josh Hinton will face Makenzie McDaniel in August’s runoff.

Dee Clemmons held onto her District 2 County Commission seat, defeating two challengers. She will face Republican Steve Richardson in November.

Incumbent Coroner Donald Cleveland retained his post with 72% of the vote and incumbent Superior Court judge Holly Veal kept her job with almost 64% of the vote. Superior Court Clerk nominee Sabriya Hill won the Democratic nomination to face incumbent Superior Court Clerk Barbara Harrison in the fall.
